Dr. Abiola Makinwa
Dr. Abiola Makinwa Creator of Integrity DLM, Coordinator of THUAS Compliance Minor

Dr. Abiola Makinwa is the Creator of the Integrity Digital Learning Module (IntegrityDLM). She is a Principal Lecturer in Commercial Law with a special focus on Anti-Corruption Law and Policy at The Hague University of Applied Sciences (THUAS) in The Netherlands.  

Abiola holds a Ph.D. from Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her Ph.D. thesis, Private Remedies for Corruption: Towards an International Framework (Eleven International Publishing, 2013) and her subsequent research focuses on the role of private actors, the importance of public/private dialogue, as well as strategies to empower victims in the fight against corruption. In 2010, Abiola’s essay ‘Future Thinking through the Prism of International Corruption’ won The Hague Institute for the Internationalization of Law (HiiL) Future Thinking Essay award. In 2013, Abiola was awarded an EU OLAF Hercule II Grant to research European Perspectives on Negotiated Settlements for Corruption Offences. Her recent work includes a volume co-edited with Tina Søreide, entitled Negotiated Settlements in Bribery Cases: A Principled Approach, (Elgar, 2020). Abiola is a professional member of the International Compliance Association and served as Chair of the Structured Criminal Settlements sub-committee of the International Bar Association Anti-Corruption Committee from (2016 – 2018). From 2017 – 2019 Abiola also served as a Member of the Drafting Team of the Hague Rules on Business and Human Rights Arbitration chaired by Judge Bruno Simma. More recently, in July 2020 she served as a Consultant to the UN FACTI Panel for its Background Paper on ‘Foreign Bribery Investigation and Prosecution’. 

Jennifer Tompul
Jennifer Tompul Student Assistant/ Intern

Jennifer Tompul is a Student Assistant and intern for Dr. Abiola Makinwa working on the Comenius Anti-Corruption Compliance Integrity Digital Learning Module as well as other projects doing research on the educational market, innovations and news in relation to compliance. Further contributions include visualizing ideas, commercial and end-user with disabilities perspectives. She is her final year of the LLB International and European Law program at The Hague University of Applied Sciences specializing in Commercial law. Jennifer has recently obtained her Alternative Dispute Resolution and Legal Technology minors.  

In 2017, she earned her pre-law certificate from Irvine Valley College in Irvine, California, and was a valued member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society and Model United Nations (MUN) team. As part of the IVC MUN team, she won multiple Outstanding Delegate awards at regional MUN conferences and international MUN conferences. 

Simona Jansonaite
Simona Jansonaite Student Assistant/ Intern

Simona Jansonaite is a Student Assistant and intern for Dr. Abiola Makinwa working on the Integrity Digital Learning Module. She designed and built the Integrity DLM website. Moreover, she took the lead on designing and coordinating the development of the Integrity DLM Values Game. 

Moreover, she contributed to the organization of the 2020-2021 THUAS Compliance Minor by coordinating the Guest Lecture Series and researching the impact of regulatory technology (RegTech) on the compliance profession. She is in her final year at The Hague University of Applied Sciences focusing on commercial law and legal tech. She hopes to continue her studies in law and technology and build her career in that field. 

Rikke Melgaard Kristiansen
Rikke Melgaard Kristiansen Former Student Assistant

Rikke Melgaard Kristiansen is an HHS International & European Law Bachelor’s graduate as of 2020. She is currently studying her Master’s in Development and International Relations at AAU, as well as working as a student assistant in the International Legal and M&A departments of a large multinational company.

Rikke was involved as a student assistant to the Integrity DLM from the beginning and for the first year of the project and has been an instrumental contributor. Her involvement included, amongst other tasks, administrative work, module content design, in-course videos, posters, website content, survey compilation, development, and ideation.

Danny Lut
Danny Lut Former Student Assistant

Danny Lut is a CMD (Communication and Multimedia Design) graduate from the Hague University of Applied Sciences and worked as a content creator for a variety of companies before even earning his Bachelor’s. He currently works as an UX Designer for a number of companies as well as an independent contractor.

During the early stages of the project, Danny got in contact with Dr. Makinwa, who requested him to create a demo of the Values Game Cards. Impressed with his work and forward-thinking, Danny was onboarded the project and he proceeded to co-ordinate the early design and branding of the Comenius funded Anti-Corruption Compliance Integrity Digital Learning Module. He has been part of different content creation departments at different firms.

Ajatshatru Bhattacharya
Ajatshatru Bhattacharya Former Student Assistant

Ajatshatru Bhattacharya is a graduate of the International and European Law Program at the University of Applied Sciences in The Hague. He established and is currently working towards growing Invictus Corporation BV, a private research institute and think-tank based in the Netherlands. Ajatshatru leads multiple departments, and researches on topics ranging from international trade, security and emerging technical-legal fields, and facilitates workshops on various hard and soft skills for his team. He is working towards his goal of becoming proficient in Space Law and International Trade Law. 

As a student assistant to Dr. Makinwa during his bachelor’s studies, Ajatshatru helped consolidate the work that was previously done on the ACCIntegrityDLM and put forward proposals for Dr. Makinwa’s vision of the digital learning module and assisted with restructuring the ACCIntegrityDLM into what is now known as IntegrityDLM. He also helped with setting out the technical framework for the development of the new digital learning module.
